Penn Forerunner Program 2018

As a host to over 6,000 international students and scholars from all over the world, The University of Pennsylvania is a truly global university. Students from China and India make up nearly half of the international student population at Penn. The growing international student community brings in vibrancy and diverse perspective to the university and it is the mission of ISSS and the university to ensure that all are welcome and fully supported.

Forerunner prepares newly accepted Penn international students for their journey to the US as well as their academic and extracurricular experience. Participants will hear from Penn officials about how to be successful in and out of the classroom and the campus resources that will help them along the way. Current Penn students facilitate small group discussions, providing insight into their Penn experience and sharing different ways to get involved in student organizations. This program allows for new students to make connections not only with each other, but also with current students, Penn staff, and alumni.

Topics of sessions and group activities during the one-day program include:

  • Student life
  • Academic Leadership
  • Classroom Culture
  • Developing a Social Network
  • Adjustments to Life at Penn and in the U.S.
  • Information about Campus Resources

Registration is required to attend. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. There is no cost to attend the program, but you are responsible for your own transportation and lodging.
